On a recent Tuesday morning, October 22, a 4th-grade class from the Waldorf School of Lexington was welcomed to the Freight House by volunteer Cynthia Mork. The fifteen students, teacher Mea Hilton, and four parents biked the five miles from the school to Depot Park along the Minuteman Bikeway, arriving at 9:30 AM.

The visit began with a gathering on the platform, where Cynthia briefly explained some basics about the history of the B&B Railroad, Freight House, Depot and railcar. The students then entered the railcar, where each got a copy of our scavenger hunt (without the answer sheet!). The kids were engaged for some time in locating the items, with Cynthia responding to their questions as they arose. She expanded a bit about Conductor Ed Schuler (whose voice is heard calling out station stops on the recording in the railcar) and rang the bell for them both inside and outside the railcar. Before getting on their bikes for the return trip, they took advantage of the benches outside and access to bathrooms. Mea and the parents expressed great appreciation for their hour-long visit, and the students appeared to enjoy the trip as well.

FBDP would be happy to host field trips for other local schools and other grades.
