Railroad Day on Saturday, August 19, was a great success, attracting over a hundred visitors to Depot Park. After periods of torrential rain the day before, the weather was partly sunny and mild. Twenty people joined rail-history author William Deen for the railyard walk and about that number stayed for his slide presentation in the railcar later in the afternoon. Very popular were the many activities for families. Children enjoyed Lego building with Chris Urbine, arts and crafts with Cynthia Mork, railroad stories with Henry Carpenter (“Conductor Henry), up-close magic with Dick Miller (“the Magic Railroad Conductor”) and Dawn Kelley, a scavenger hunt, and the model railroad in the Freight House with Terry Gleason. Thanks also to the other volunteers who pitched in during the day, including Greg Carpenter, Keith Lavon, Alison Mork, Joe Piantedosi, Mike Shaw, and Steve Wetzel. More photographs from the event are on display in the railcar.
